“Violence and elegance; cool rage, hot wit; laughter and terror having at each other. These are the building blocks of art in America. A Delicate Balance is work by a master builder. As I watched the play, I felt the thrill of first seeing Mr. Albee’s work, about what privilege and power combined with grief and rage can do to people. Mr. Albee’s plays made us question the state of our souls. They still do. Mr. Albee’s works were built to last.”
