2014 JONATHAN LARSON® GRANTS RECIPIENTS
ANNOUNCED

PRESENTATIONS TO BE HELD ON APRIL 7th

New York, NY (March 14, 2014) The American Theatre Wing announced today that the recipients of the 2014 Jonathan Larson® Grants are writing team Sara Cooper (lyricist/bookwriter) & Zach Redler (composer), receiving $12,500 and the Running Deer Residency; and Shaina Taub (composer/lyricist), receiving $12,500. The prestigious grants, totaling $15,000 more than last year's grants, will be presented on Monday, April 7, 2014 at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. The event will feature special performances of the recipients’ work.

New York, NY (Tuesday, September 17, 2013) – The American Theatre Wing (William Ivey Long, Chair; Heather Hitchens, Executive Director) announced today that its annual gala, held last night at the Plaza Hotel, was the most successful in the organization’s history, raising nearly $700,000 (besting the previous record, which was set in 2012, by approximately $100,000).  All proceeds from the evening will benefit the education and outreach programs of the American Theatre Wing, which include SpringboardNYC, the Theatre Intern Group, the National Theatre Company Grants and the Jonathan Larson Grants, and will also support free access for students, aspiring professionals, and the general public to programming on AmericanTheatreWing.org, including the long running television show “Working in the Theatre.”

FUNDING WILL SUPPORT SPRINGBOARDNYC AND THEATRE INTERN GROUP: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS FOR THEATRE STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER PROFESSIONALS

GRANT IS ONE OF 817 NEA ART WORKS GRANTS
TOTALING $26.3 MILLION IN FUNDING NATIONWIDE

New York National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that the American Theatre Wing is one of 817 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The American Theatre Wing is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support SpringboardNYC, its summer boot camp that helps student actors make the transition from college to career, and Theatre Intern Group, a professional development group for young adults beginning careers in theatre administration and management.

New York – Five-time Tony® Award-winning Costume Designer William Ivey Long has been elected Chair of the American Theatre Wing.  Having joined the board of the American Theatre Wing last year, Long will succeed current Chair Ted Chapin, who concludes his four-year term this year (the maximum number of consecutive years permitted).  Chapin will maintain an active role in The Wing as he takes on the responsibilities as Co-Vice Chair.

Limited to 35 participants, SpringboardNYC provides financial aid and multiple scholarship programs to students who qualify.

New York, NY (December 9, 2011) – The American Theatre Wing (Theodore S. Chapin, Chairman, Board of Trustees; Heather Hitchens, Executive Director) continues the 2011 season of its legendary, long running, and newly revamped television show, “Working in the Theatre,” with an all new episode on “Regional Theatre.”  Theodore S. Chapin moderates in-depth conversations with representatives from each of the ten theaters receiving the American Theatre Wing 2011 National Theatre Company Grants.  The topics discussed include the challenges of producing in tough economic times, the impact theaters can have on their communities, and the creativity and diversity in the works each of these theaters present.
