The last year or so has been filled with awards and accolades for playwright Samuel D. Hunter.   During the 2012-13 season, Hunter’s The Whale had its New York premiere at Playwrights Horizons.  It starred Shuler Hensley as a 600-pound man who teaches online writing courses while secretly trying to reconcile with his daughter.  The play garnered Hunter a 2013 Drama Desk Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play.  During the upcoming 2013-14 season, he has three plays debuting at three separate regional theatres, South Coast Repertory, Seattle Repertory, and the Old Globe.
