Peter and the Starcatcher has just arrived on Broadway after last year's production at the New York Theatre Workshop and it still is an absolute delight. It has a perfect cast and ingenious direction by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers.  It tells the tale of three lost orphan boys and their adventures finding Neverland; this is the back-story of Peter Pan.  Based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.  This production is cleverly written by Rick Elise, a Tony winner for Jersey Boys.  While parallels will be drawn between Wicked and this show, this charming show stands on its own merits.

Centennial, Colo. – September 13, 2011 – To mark its 25th Anniversary year, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh present “The Phantom of the Opera” in a fully-staged, lavish production, set in the sumptuous Victorian splendor of the Royal Albert Hall. Audiences are invited to join the celebration when a live broadcast of the staged production hits U.S. theaters this fall. Presented by NCM Fathom and Omniverse Vision, The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hallevent will be broadcast to select theaters for an exclusive four-night run beginning with the LIVE broadcast on Sunday, October 2 at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT; followed by pre-recorded broadcasts on Wednesday, October 5; Thursday, October 6 and one final encore on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. local time. More than 200 original and current cast members will pay special tribute to “the music of the night” featuring the breathtaking songs such as “Masquerade,” “Angel of Music,” “All I Ask of You,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and more.

The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall will star Ramin Karimloo as ‘The Phantom’ and Sierra Boggess as ‘Christine.’ They will be joined by Barry James as ‘Monsieur Firmin,’ Gareth Snook as ‘Monsieur André,’ Liz Robertson as ‘Madame Giry’ and Wynne Evans as ‘Piangi’ together with a cast and orchestra of more than 200 including special guest appearances.

The box office for the off-Broadway revival of the landmark musical Rent will open Friday, May 6, at 1pm at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, Between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.  The first 100 people in line at the box office will receive an exclusive Rent gift pack.

Rent, written by Jonathan Larson, will be directed by Michael Greif who directed the show’s original off-Broadway and Broadway productions.  The creative team will include

Performance Space 122 will honor Justin Vivian Bond, Danny Hoch and Carmelita Tropicana at the 30th Anniversary Season Spring Gala on Monday, April 25 beginning at 6pm at the Abrons Arts Center (466 Grand St. at Pitt Street).  Featuring performances by Rufus Wainwright, Nilaja Sun, Ann Carlson and more, this evening will honor and celebrate those who have made great contributions to PS122 and the performing arts community. The evening will include a performance installation by Pat Oleszko as well as an exclusive screening of STUNT: A Musical Motion Picture.In addition to the celebrating the evenings honorees the 2011 Ethyl Eichelberger Award and Shining Star Award will be presented as well.

For thirty years Performance Space 122 has brought edge-melting contemporary performance to life. Now, as the institution boldly considers the future the 30th Anniversary Spring Season kicks into high gear with a gala that promises to be one for the ages.

Justin, Danny and Carmelita are three trailblazers who have each made their mark on Performance Space 122 and in the world of contemporary performance over the past three decades. On this one exceptional nightPS122 honors them for their formative careers while giving special thanks to the founders and original Board Pioneers by presenting the Shining Star award to individuals whose leadership was pivotal in both the foundation and growth of Performance Space 122.

More about the honorees:

Carmelita Tropicana, aka Alina Troyano has been writing and performing her plays and monologues since the early 80’s, performing in many downtown clubs and theaters, including regular appearances during the early days of the seminal WOW (Women’s One World) Cafe, and indeed the early days of Performance Space 122 where she presented her play “Memorias de la Revolucion” in 1987. Her work has toured across the country and to Europe and she has received both an Obie as well as the prestigious Anonymous Was a Woman Fellowship. Her history with Performance Space 122 is a rich one. In addition to “Memorias”, performances at the space include Candela Y Azucar (1989), Brave New Worlds (1992), Milk of Amnesia (1994), Our Sor Juana (1995), Chicas 2000 (1998), and Single Wet Female (2002). She has lent her talent to uncountable benefits, and has served on the Board of Directors since 1999. Performance Space 122 owes much to her hard work and artistry, but also for bringing to the space the community of pioneering feminist performing artists that came of age in the 1980’s.

Danny Hoch is an actor, playwright, and director whose work has garnered a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Obies, the Cal Arts/Herb Alpert Award, and fellowships from Sundance, the N.E.A., and the Tennessee Williams foundation. His work has been performed across the country and toured internationally. He presented his first work at Performance Space 122 in 1997 and went on to premiere his acclaimed shows “Some People” and “Jails, Hospitals, and Hip Hop” there in 1997/98, which were later made into films and HBO specials. In 2000, Danny founded the Hip Hop Theater Festival at PS122. The festival has since presented more than 100 hip hop generation plays and performances and currently takes place in multiple cities across the country. Performance Space 122 is proud to have been a home to Danny’s singular and groundbreaking theater work, and salutes his vision and generosity in encouraging a new kind of theater from a new generation of voices.

Justin Vivian Bond was recently described by the New Yorker as “the greatest cabaret artist of the (current) generation.” The singer/songwriter/performance artist has been nominated for a Tony, and awarded with an Obie, as well as a Bessie. Bond’s full length shows have been presented all over the world. First appearing at Performance Space 122 in 1991 in the cast of Kate Bornstein’s “Hidden: A Gender” directed by Noreen V. Barnes, and produced by Lori E. Seid, Bond returned to the space as half of the duo Kiki and Herb for sold-out shows in 1994 and 1998. In addition to performing at many PS122 benefits, and hosting several of PS122’s longest running series, the biannual variety show, Avant-Garde-Arama, Justin premiered “Lustre” at Performance Space 122 in 2008 after winning the Ethyl Eichelberger commissioning award. PS122 has been enriched not only by Justin’s performances, but by the many individuals from the cabaret and transgender performing community who have appeared onstage and in the audience during them.

Get Spider-Man Turn off the Dark Tickets

New York, NY – Following its historic matinee performance on Sunday, April 17, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark embarks on a three-week hiatus for technical rehearsals before unveiling the new version of the mega musical on Thursday, May 12.  The original staging of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark played its final performances to sold-out houses.  The official opening night of the new SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is set for Tuesday, June 14th at the Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street).

The revamping of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark represents an unprecedented and historic moment on Broadway.  The new version takes the best aspects of the original, adds great new songs by Bono and The Edge, tells the story from a different angle, and will offer an even more thrilling audience experience.

Lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris said, in a joint statement, "We salute the artists and performers who have made this show an exciting reality, and we look forward to getting to the finish line with the wonderful new version of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark that is now in the works, with Phil McKinley at the helm."

It was recently announced that Philip William McKinley, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Chase Brock have joined the creative team to help implement new staging, assist with book rewrites, and create additional choreography, respectively.  McKinley has vast experience directing technically complex productions on Broadway and beyond. Aguirre-Sacasa is an acclaimed playwright, screenwriter (Big Love) and a noted writer of Spider-Man comic books. Brock is an innovative choreographer experienced with large Broadway shows.

The Drama League (Jano Herbosch, President; Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director) is pleased to announce that on Monday, April 25, 2011, Norbert Leo Butz and Kathleen Chalfant (both previous winners of The Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award) will announce the nominations for The 77th Annual Drama League Awards.

The announcement will take place at a 10:30 a.m. breakfast reception at SD26 Restaurant, located in the heart of the Flatiron District at 19 East 26th Street (between 5th and Madison Aves.).  Live video coverage of the nominations announcement will be streamed on at 11 a.m.

Get Love, Loss and What I Wore Tickets

New York, NY (4/14/2011) – Producer Daryl Roth announced today that TV regulars Minka Kelly, most recently seen on NBC’s “Parenthood,” and Susan Sullivan, who stars on ABC’s “Castle,” will join upcoming casts of Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron’s Off Broadway hit Love, Loss, and What I Wore, now in its second smash year at the Westside Theatre (407 W 43 Street). 

Ms. Kelly completes the next cast, which begins Wednesday, April 27 (through May 29) and also includes the previously announced Conchata Ferrell (“Two and a Half Men”), AnnaLynne McCord (“90210”), Anne Meara (“Sex and the City”) and B. Smith (lifestyle expert and restaurateur).

Ms. Sullivan will join supermodel Emme in the June cast, performing June 1 through July 3, 2011.  Additional summer casting will be announced soon.

The current cast of Love, Loss, and What I Wore(through April 24) includes Sonia Manzano, Donna McKechnie, Annie Starke, Freddi Walker-Browne and Rumer Willis

Love, Loss, and What I Wore, opened in October 2009 at the Westside Theatre (407 W 43rd Street), where it’s broken all box office records.  Directed by Karen Carpenter, this collection of stories is based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons’ friends.  Like the popular book, Love, Loss, and What I Wore uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to.

The production, which was honored with a 2010 Drama Desk Award and a Audience Award, is performed by a rotating cast of five all-star actors, who perform in five-week cycles.   Members of the rotating cast have included Samantha Bee, Alexis Bledel, Kristin Chenoweth, Tyne Daly, Fran Drescher, Janeane Garofalo, Melissa Joan Hart, Carol Kane, Stacy London, Jane Lynch, Natasha Lyonne, Rosie O’Donnell, Rhea Perlman, Caroline Rhea, Doris Roberts, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sherri Shepherd, Brooke Shields, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Cobie Smulders, Rita Wilson and many more.

In addition to its New York production, Love, Loss, and What I Worehas played in Los Angles, Toronto, Sydney and more and recently announced that a touring production will kick-off at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse theatre beginning September 13, 2011.

Minka Kelly.  Most recently, Minka has played Gaby on NBC’s “Parenthood,” starred opposite Leighton Meester in The Roommate, and appeared in the Adam Sandler / Jennifer Aniston film Just Go With It.   Additional TV and film credits include: “Friday Night Lights,” (500) Days of Summer, The Kingdom and many more. Next she’ll star in the upcoming remake of “Charlie’s Angels.”  Love, Loss, and What I Wore marks Minka’s New York stage debut.
