The 2013 – 2014 Broadway season concluded with grosses up (+11.4%), attendance up (+5.6%), and playing weeks up (+4.6%).
Furthermore, this past week was both the highest grossing and best attended Memorial Day week in recorded history.
“It’s been another amazing season and Broadway is healthy and vibrant,” says Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League. “With over a 5% increase in attendance, the diverse offerings on stage are clearly pleasing our audiences. As well, ticket buying is easier and alternate curtain times and more selections of matinee days make seeing a show convenient for every schedule.”
The show tally is based on the final Tony Awards determinations of categories. The final numbers in accordance with the 2014 Tony Awards determinations are as follows:
44 productions opened during the 2013-2014 season which included 16 musicals (12 new, 4 revivals), 25 plays (10 new, 14 revivals, 1 return engagement), and 3 specials.
