New York, NY – Producers Joey Parnes and Larry Hirschhorn have announced that the Tony® Award-winning Broadway production of Christopher Durang’s new comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, prior to the conclusion of its originally announced 17-week playing period, has recouped its entire $2.75 million investment.  The production, which won the 2013 Tony® Award for Best Play, recently extended its premiere Broadway engagement at the Golden Theatre for a second time and will now end its run Sunday, August 25 (it was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, June 30).  Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike began performances on Tuesday, March 5 and opened on Thursday, March 14.

The critically lauded play has swept the awards circuit this year, having now been named Best Play by every major theatrical awards organization including the aforementioned Tony® Awards, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, the Drama Desk, the Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle.

Directed by Nicholas Martin, the production currently stars Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Billy Magnussen, Shalita Grant, and Liesel Allen-Yeager. Ms. Weaver will play her final performance on Sunday, July 28, and Tony® Award-winner Julie White will assume the role of ‘Masha’ beginning Tuesday, July 30.

Riffing on some of Anton Chekov’s most time-tested themes, Christopher Durang proves in his hysterically funny and surprisingly affecting new romp, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, that whether you’re in 19th Century Russia or 21st Century Pennsylvania, the human condition never changes.  Vanya (Pierce) and Sonia (Nielsen) have never left the confines of their childhood home – a rambling farmhouse in Bucks County, PA – while having to witness the glamorous exploits of their sister, Masha (Weaver), a famous movie actress, from afar.  A surprise visit from Masha and her 20-something boy toy, Spike (Magnussen), throws the normally quiet household int0 utter upheaval as its residents and visitors get swept up in an intoxicating mixture of lust, rivalry, regret, and the sudden possibility of escape.

The creative team features David Korins (Scenic Design), Emily Rebholz (Costume Design), Justin Townsend (Lighting Design), and Mark Bennett (Original Music and Sound Design).

Tickets for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike can be purchased in person at the Golden Theatre Box Office (252 West 45th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues) or via (212) 239-6200. For Group Bookings visit or call Telecharge Group Sales at 800-432-7780.  A number of $37 “Rush Tickets” will be made available for each performance for patrons aged thirty-five and younger.  These tickets must be purchased day-of, in-person at the box office and are subject to availability.  Valid photo I.D. will be required, and patrons are limited to two rush tickets per performance.
