NEW YORK, NY – Acclaimed Off-Broadway not-for-profit theater company Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced initial details for its 2012 special online Auction in connection with its annual Spring Gala .   Bidding for the auction, which will feature an eclectic array of items and unique opportunities, begins Sunday, April 29 at 10AM at www.biddingforgood/playwrightshorizons.  Online bidding will continue for two weeks through Monday, May 14 (with items staggered to close at 8PM and 9PM). 

{module ad_left_body}Celebrating its 41st Anniversary Season, Playwrights Horizons is one of New York’s most prized theater companies. Proceeds from the Auction and Gala benefit the company’s six annual productions and programs that develop new work, support access to the arts, and training the next generation of theater managers and artists.    

 A writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, it has presented the work of over 375 writers.  The 2011/2012 Season has boasted productions of Itamar Moses’ Completeness, Kirsten Greenidge’s Milk Like Sugar, Jordan Harrison’s Maple and Vine, Leslye Headland’s Assistance, Dan LeFranc’s current The Big Meal and the upcoming Obie Award-winning play Rapture, Blister, Burn.  The Off-Broadway institution is the recipient of numerous awards and last year was honored with its fifth Pulitzer Prize for Drama, for Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park, which had its World Premiere at the theater last season and is currently playing on Broadway.  The 2012-2013 season includes plays and musicals by Annie Baker, Tanya Barfield, Lisa D’Amour, Scott Frankel, Richard Greenberg, Amy Herzog, Samuel D. Hunter and Michael Korie.

Playwrights Horizons’ annual Gala evening, this year titled “The Highest Standard”, will be held Monday evening, June 11th at 583 Park Avenue.  The evening will honor its five Pulitzer Prize-winning productions and creators include: Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park (2011 winner), Doug Wright’s I Am My Own Wife (2004 winner, 2004 Tony Award, Best Play), Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles (1989 winner), Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy (1988 winner) and Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park With George (1985 winner)  Cocktails and a Silent Auction will begin at 6PM, followed by dinner at 7:45 PM and the evening’s entertainment.
