“ H A I R ”

New York, NY (11/6/09) – In true sixties style, Ghostlight Records will release the New Broadway Cast Recording of the Tony Award-winning musical HAIRas a limited edition re-mastered vinyl LP, it was announced today.  The double album ($50), which will also include a special collector’s edition booklet, is available for pre-sale beginning today by visiting and will be available for purchase exclusively online and at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street) beginning Tuesday, November 24, 2009

The Ghostlight Records recording, featuring the 37-member cast and band, was released digitally via iTunes May 26, 2009 and quickly became the #1 most downloaded soundtrack.  The CD recording, released June 23, 2009, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Broadway Chart and at #63 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart (unusually high for a cast recording).  The album was recorded on Monday, April 6th at New York City’s Legacy Studios and is produced by Kurt Deutsch and Joel Moss with Bill Rosenfield acting as Executive Producer.

One of the most iconic of Broadway scores, HAIR features more modern “hit” songs than any show in history: “Aquarius,” “Let The Sun Shine In,” “Easy To Be Hard,” “Good Morning Starshine,” and the title song became chart-topping hits, Grammy winners, Gold or Platinum records, or all of the above.  The original Broadway cast recording of HAIR remains one of greatest selling pop albums of all time and among the most beloved in music history.

The new Broadway production of HAIR is the winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.  In addition to the Tony Award, HAIR was named Best Musical Revival by the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League.

Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot
