New York, NY – SoHo Playhouse, Inc. (15 Vandam Street, New York City) today announced the three exciting productions that will make up their 2012-13 three-play season.

The Season:

The Old Man and the Old Moon
By PigPen Theatre Co.
at The Gym at Judson
243 Thompson Street at Washington Square South
September 26, - November 25, 2012
Opening Night October 4, 2012

The Old Man and the Old Moon is the tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon every month, to cross the seas in search of his missing wife.  PigPen creates atmospheric theatrical fables with a unique blend of shadow puppetry, group movement, live music, and clever lighting effects.  Formed at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2008, PigPen has toured nationally and became the first company in history to win the top honor for a play at the New York City International Fringe Festival two years in a row, in 2010 and 2011.  The Old Man and the Old Moon is a co-production of Britt Lafield/BKL Productions.

Ingenious Nature
Witten and Performed by Baba Brinkman
Directed by Darren Lee Cole
Music and Turntablism by Mr. Simmonds
at The SoHo Playhouse
November 20, 2012 - January 6, 2013
Opening Night December 2, 2012

Alpha males get all the girls.  Or is the definition of alpha changing faster than our genes can catch up, messing with evolution?  If there's a new science of sexual choice, Darwin wrote the playbook…just try not to bring it up on a first date.  Ingenious Nature is a new theatrical mix-tape from the creator of The Canterbury Tales Remixed (“Delightful!” The New York Times) and The Rap Guide to Evolution (2011 Drama Desk Award Nominee).

Hamlet In Bed
By Michael Laurence
Directed by Lisa Peterson
at The SoHo Playhouse
Opening in January, 2013

Hamlet In Bed is an edgy and genre-busting new play/event from Michael Laurence, the playwright/performer of the acclaimed Krapp, 39 (2009 Drama Desk nominee, “Superb...tremendously poignant” The New York Times, “A thing of startling, wounding beauty” The Village Voice), directed by OBIE-winning director Lisa Peterson (“An Iliad”).

Michael is an actor and adoptee obsessed with two things - finding his real mother, and playing the  famous Gloomy Dane.  His twin fixations collide when he tracks down Anna, a reclusive former actress-cum-barfly whom he believes to be his actual birth-mother, and lures her into a noirish production of Hamlet playing the role of the queen, his mother.  Rehearsals expose the complicated inner lives of each actor and bring them ever closer to the slippery truth of their relationship.

Hamlet In Bed is a darkly comic and poignant story about mothers and sons.

About what it means to live a life in the theatre, both a generation ago and now.

And about families- the ones we’re born into, and the ones we find along the way.

“We are extremely excited to announce our 2012 – 2013 season, which promises to be our most daring and entertaining yet,” enthused SoHo Playhouse, Inc. Artistic Director Darren Lee Cole.  “As the mission of SoHo Playhouse, Inc. is to bring the most stripped down and basic storytelling to the theatrical environment, PigPen and SoHo Playhouse, Inc. are truly a perfect match.  The great Baba Brinkman will bring the third of his Hip Hop storytelling masterpieces to The Playhouse, following his much lauded The Rap Guide to Evolution and The Canterbury Tales Remixed which we were thrilled to have premiered in our spaceAnd finally, we also look forward to welcoming Michael Laurence back to The Playhouse with the world premiere of Hamlet in Bed.  Michael’s previous play, Krapp, 39 enjoyed a six month run at The Playhouse, received critical raves, and was nominated for a 2009 Drama Desk Award before playing London and Dublin.  As with Krapp, 39, Hamlet In Bed promises to turn heads with Laurence’s uniquely stylish and formally inventive storytelling.”

The newly renovated SoHo Playhouse continues to serve the downtown theater community as an historic 199 seat Off Broadway venue.  The Huron Club situated below the main theatre is an intimate 55 seat cabaret and bar steeped in the history of Old New York.  SoHo Playhouse stands on land that was once Richmond Hill, a colonial mansion that served as headquarters for General George Washington and later home to Aaron Burr.  Purchased from Burr in 1817, the land was then developed into federalist-style row houses by fur magnate John Jacob Astor.  15 Van Dam Street, was designated as the Huron Club, a popular meeting house and night club for the Democratic Party.  The main floor was transformed into a theater in the 1920's, and in the 60's operated as the Village South, home to Playwrights Unit Workshop under the direction of Edward Albee.  It was on this stage that Mr. Albee produced many first works of Terrance McNally, John Guare, Lanford Wilson, Sam Shephard, A.R. Gurney, and Leroi Jones.  More recently The Playhouse has been home to Tracy Letts, Charles Busch, Adam Rapp, and many others.
