Kritzer Out, Larsen In for York Theatre Company's CLOSER THAN EVER

New York, NY (August 21, 2012)  The York Theatre Company (James Morgan,Producing Artistic Director) in association with Edward Negley, Neil Berg and Adam Friedson, has announced Anika Larsen (Xanadu, All Shook Up, Avenue Q) will join the cast of Closer Than Ever with Lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Music by David Shire beginning August 28, 2012, replacing previously announced Leslie Kritzer who departed due to a scheduling conflict. 

With direction by Mr. Maltby, associate direction and choreography by Kurt Stamm and music direction by Andrew Gerle, the cast also features Jacquelyn Piro Donovan (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables), George Dvorsky (The Scarlet Pimpernel)and Sal Viviano (The Full Monty)Now in performance through September 30th at The York Theatre at Saint Peter’s (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). 

Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire's musical treasure Closer Than Ever reopened in June at the York Theatre Company with an exciting new cast and fresh additions to the timeless score.  An intimate musical about love, friendship, security, happiness – and holding onto those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once – Closer Than Ever at the York isn't merely a revival, it's the homecoming of an Off-Broadway classic. “An absolutely exquisite and exhilarating theatrical experience. 4 out of 4 Stars!” exclaimed Matt Windman, AM NY.  “A truly magical, satisfying experience! The creative team includes James Morgan (sets), Nicole Wee (costumes), and Kirk Bookman (lights).  The Production Stage Manager is Bernita Robinson.

Closer Than Ever plays the following performance schedule through August 25: Mondays & Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays at 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. 

After August 25:  The performance schedule will change to Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m, and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (There will be no performance on September 2.)

Anika Larsen has performed on Broadway in Avenue QXanadu, All Shook Up and Rent.  She performed Off-Broadway in Zanna, Don't!, Miracle Brothers and How to Save the World and Find True Love in 90 Minutes.  Anika wrote and performed in a musical called Shafrika, The White Girl about growing up with 9 brothers and sisters adopted from different races and countries.  She is co-founder of Jaradoa Theater, a company that uses theater to serve the community.
