Also part of MTC’s Off-Broadway season will be the world premiere of THE MADRID, the new play by Liz Flahive (From Up Here, “Nurse Jackie”), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Chinglish, From Up Here, In the Wake) starring four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie,” House of Blue Leaves, “The Sopranos”).

MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow said, “I am looking forward to a season of new plays and new perspectives on world renowned works. I’m thrilled to open the Broadway season with Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s vibrant new version of Ibsen’s AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE with Doug Hughes directing the American premiere for us at the Friedman Theatre. It has been 40 years since the play was last seen on Broadway and the power and humanity of Ibsen’s masterpiece is as timely as ever – especially in the fall election season.”

MTC Artistic Producer Mandy Greenfield, who leads programming and execution at MTC’s Off-Broadway home at New York City Center, said, “I am delighted that we will open our Off-Broadway season with Terrence McNally and Walter Bobbie creating a new production for the New York premiere of GOLDEN AGE. I am also thrilled to bring playwright Liz Flahive and director Leigh Silverman back together at MTC, following our successful collaboration on From Up Here, for the world premiere of Liz’s MTC-commissioned play THE MADRID. We are especially excited that we’ll be joined by Edie Falco to create the role of Martha in this beautiful, funny, and sensitive play.”

Meadow and Greenfield are finalizing plans for the rest of the 2012-2013 seasonand will announce additional productions in the coming weeks.
