HAIR Announces Line of Eco-Friendly Show Merchandise

“ H A I R ”

OFFERS LINE OF ECO-FRIENDLY
MERCHANDISE

LIMITED EDITION TOTE BAG

MADE FROM TIMES SQUARE BILLBOARD

NOW AVAILABLE!

New York, NY (5/25/2010) Producers of the Tony Award-winning musical HAIR announced today that the show has captured its Times Square billboard and repurposed it to create a limited edition tote bag, rather than discarding the large advertisement, made of vinyl.  This collector’s item will be available only at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street) beginning today (Tuesday, May 25).  Two-hundred-sixty totes were made from the billboard, and will be available while supplies last.

In addition to the totes (which saved a huge piece of vinyl from being sent to a landfill), HAIR, in collaboration with Creative Goods, NYC, also offers an entire collection of eco-friendly merchandise in line with the message of the show:   Apparel is made with organic cotton or organic cotton-blend; HAIR’s souvenir book is printed on recycled paper with vegetable ink; Creative Goods always uses recycled plastic bags for every purchase.

Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermotHAIR opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W 45 Street, NYC) to rave reviews on March 31, 2009.  The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. Now, the "Age of Aquarius" dawns again in this jubilant production, which is the winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle also recently honored the production with their 2009 award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.

The full Broadway cast of HAIR includes Annaleigh Ashford (Jeanie), Justin Badger (Tribe), Jeannette Bayardelle (Dionne), Nicholas Belton (Swing), Larkin Bogan (Tribe), Natalie Bradshaw (Tribe), Catherine Brookman (Tribe), Briana Carlson-Goodman (Swing), Diana DeGarmo (Sheila), Antwayn Hopper (Tribe), Erika Jerry (Tribe), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Swing), Rachel Bay Jones (Mom), Mykal Kilgore (Tribe), Josh Lamon (Margaret Mead/Dad), Nicole Lewis (Swing), Anastacia McCleskey (Tribe), Vanessa Ray (Crissy), Paris Remillard (Tribe), Kyle Riabko (Claude), Arbender Robinson (Swing), Kate Rockwell (Tribe), Cailan Rose (Tribe), Rashidra Scott (Tribe), Jen Sese (Tribe), Wallace Smith (Hud), Lawrence Stallings (Tribe), Terrance Thomas (Tribe), Jason Wooten (Woof), Ace Young (Berger) and Emma Zaks (Swing).

HAIR also offers a pre-performance ticket lottery for box-seat tickets, aptly renamed “BE-IN BOXES.”   Those wishing to purchase these tickets are asked to show up at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre 2 1/2 hours before each performance for a drawing that will take place 2 hours before curtain.  For every performance, a limited number of  lucky audience members will receive $25 “be-in box” tickets, promising to make their experience of the show both affordable and unique.  Limit one entry per person, and two tickets per entry.  Winners must be present at the time of the drawing and show valid ID to purchase tickets.  Tickets can be purchased from the box office in cash only.

Ghostlight Records’ New Broadway Cast Recording of HAIR (2010 Grammy Award nominee) is also available as a limited edition re-mastered vinyl LP.
